Operations and Maintenance

Data on existing assets is vital to make effective management decisions about assets, such as when to continue to repair versus when to replace. These data could include:

      • How often is the asset used? (e.g., constantly, daily, weekly, etc.)

      • How long is the asset run? (e.g., constantly, minutes, hours, etc.)

      • Is the asset being used as designed?

      • Is it running outside of specifications?

      • What regular maintenance is performed?

      • How often is the asset repaired?

      • What kinds of repairs does the asset require?

For more detailed information on tracking and utilizing operation and maintenance data, see the information provided in the Life Cycle Costing sections.

Asset maintenance can change over time. Understanding and tracking information will help the system plan for future assets. Each asset category will have different operational and maintenance considerations.
