Michelle Olson, M.S.

Michelle Olson joined the Southwest EFC as a Water Utility Trainer and Specialist in January 2025. She is an experienced environmental professional with a Master of Science degree in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of New Mexico and over ten years of experience working with the Safe Drinking Water Act, the New Mexico Water Code, and Clean Air Act for the State of New Mexico. Michelle has worked closely with compliance officers, public water systems, certified laboratories, and the EPA to maintain regulatory compliance through water quality data management using Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) with particular focus on the Lead and Copper Rule, Surface Water Treatment Rule, Ground Water Rule, and Total Coliform Rule. She has expertise in water rights administration and facilitated collaborative projects involving drought relief, aquifer recharge, and water supply initiatives with various stakeholders along the Middle Rio Grande. She is also experienced in administering air quality regulations and providing client support with state and federal laws. With expertise in geospatial data management, Michelle has also contributed to the development of advanced GIS tools, reports, and datasets for regulatory transparency and public engagement. Throughout her career, she has consistently fostered partnerships with local communities, and federal and state organizations, and promoting environmental standards to assist with compliance in water and air quality regulations.
