A.J. Barney joined the Southwest EFC in September of 2022. He holds a B.A. in Biology and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico. He has 9 years of experience working in wastewater operations and compliance. His experience includes the inspection and regulation of industrial and commercial wastewater system users, supervision and training of industrial pretreatment sampling, and acting as a treatment plant operator, control room operator, trainer, and supervisor at the Albuquerque Water Authority Southwest Reclamation Plant. He has developed training for samplers and operators designed to provide trainees with relevant on-the-job training as well as theoretical knowledge for a deeper understanding of wastewater analyses and processes. Through his work in compliance he was charged with developing, revising, and updating both internal and external compliance documents such as standard operating procedures, protocols, ordinances, and enforcement response plans. A.J. will be using his wastewater compliance and operation experience to serve the Southwest EFCs mission of providing assistance to underserved communities and further water sustainability.
