Asset Type : Enhanced

Water Classification: Stormwater Overflows

Construction Rank : 2

O&M Rank : 2

How it Works : Drainage ditches are used to move standing water from one location to another.

O&M Required : Mowing, vegetation control and waste removal.

Design Considerations : Establish hydraulic grade line, depth, slope and allowance for sedimentation.

Costs : Creating ditches often requires heavy equipment and thus is more expensive however, you can keep costs down by not piping your ditch. Piping ditches is very expensive and usually costs a typical residential lot approximately $5,000.

Benefits : Ditches convey stormwater and also function as swales, holding rainwater and encouraging infiltration.
